Hi, I'm 25 yrs old and have a rare conditon called 18Q minus Syndrome, I've had it ever since I was born and it affects My ability to do normal everyday living.  Anyways The effects of this condition include Hearing loss, low muscle tone, speech and language imparment, and other abnormal effects.  I was born deaf in both ears but  I had two ear operations on my right ear back in 86 and now I wear a hearing aid in my right ear which helps out a lot. without it I would die.

This really IS rare! I have never heard of it! Is this hereditary? Can you tell us more about how you live with this condition? I am very interested in learning about it.

Do you use sign language, or an augmentative communication device? Are you able ot get around or go to work or a day program?

I am so sorry I was not here to welcome you to our forum! I have been soooo busy with work that I've not been able to get on my home computer. I'm so glad you're here! Please tell us more about yourself!

Hi, well I got  the 18Q minus Syndrome by me missing a cromosone from my parents which it isn't my parents fault, it just happens.  I used to use sign language when i was a kid but i  do know the simple sign language and i sometimes use it. I can lipread when people talk to me when i dont have my hearing aid.   I used to work part time but now i have to take care of my 4 month old which is a girl until spring time.  this condition is rare and the doctors told my parents that i wouldn't be able to ride a bike, get pregnant and the simple stuff normal people do.  but i've proved them wrong and i thank all the doctors who worked on me. I can do mostly anything execpt skateboarding, and the things that use balance which i'm not good at.

sincerly,
kendra
