prednisone issue

two weeks ago I started taking 60mg of prednisone felt fine but was only sleeping about 3 to 4 hours a night and some out of the blue sweating. My 10 month old son went to the ER with 105 temp on Tuesday the same day I went to 40mg of prednisone. Over the next 3 days I slept maybe a total of 9 hours. Then Friday night I went into the ER with A Fib and hpm of 145, BP 148 over 100 and a blood sugar reading of 245. Was given some meds and sent home, I came out of A Fib early Sunday morning. All day Monday felt like I was with drawing from something, very tried, shakes, sweating like crazy, headaches, couldn't think stright, just felt very bad. Went to cardo Dr. bp 148 over 100 and hpm around 100. Cycling off the prednisone now and bp 140 over 90 hpm 86 and feeling allot better and son is also good. My issue is my Cardo Dr. is wanting to put me (has) on a heart rate med and a water pill. Is this over kill souldn't we see what happens as the prednisone clears from my system? Also how long does prednisone stay in your system?

You don't say why you were put on prednisone (very nasty with terrible side effects). If your present condition is the result of prednisone and not something related to a previous problem, then I would wait until the prednisone was out of my system. Present this thought to your doctor and see what he has to say. There is a terrible tendency to overmedicate, but that may not be true in this case.
