Hello all, I have been with an alcoholic for 13yrs, however I have a very interesting story. My husband does not drink very often or not at all. He quit 4yrs ago when our son was born and I was going to leave as he was on xanax, & alcohol & fell asleep while my little boy was crawling on the floor & I walked in and my husband was passed out. We have been to counseling & we are still trying to go to counseling, however he has lost his job in May and we all know about the economy these days. I work at my sons school as a para & do not get paid in the summer. I left a 32,000 dollar a yr job to be with my son more as it was to stressful. So needless to say no Medical insurance. So I am now looking for an AA, & an alanon to attend as I realize this is free. I have issues of my own. I have general anxiety disorder, & have panic attacks that lead to severe health anxiety, so you can imagine how not having med insurance has been.... I also have read  the co-dependent no more book. I truly think that book was written for me specifically. Obviously since he doesn't drink he still has the issues and I am trying so hard to find help so I do not leave him, or altleast detach from trying to stop him from his feelings... thanks for reading my summed up story.

hello. you are on the right path. you will find answers through alanon and even some of the other posts here. chemical dependency is a condition that manifests in many ways, with the actual chemical use being but a symptom. you seem to have already realized that and as such are well on your way to a solution. you can't fix your husband or anyone else, but you can acquire the tools and knowledge to help him begin to fix himself. the book you mentioned is a good resource as well. please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or concerns. take care,  gm
