husband thinks he is ok

husband thinks he is ok

my husband went to a clinic to get help, he was on medication for a year, excatly to the year he decided to stop as he thinks he can handle it, well he did for a wee while, now hes back to drinking, he drinks at least 2 to 3 btls of wine a day and its getting to me, every morning he will say he wont drink today and go back on hs meds but by the afternoon hes changed his mind, now im wondering is he just kidding me on to make me believe him. im sick to death seeing him drinking again, i see that look on him again but he says im excarating.

Hello. What kind of medication was he on? I used to drink just as much, and would tell myself and others that I was going to quit- at times I really wanted too as I was miserable. The problem is that alcoholism is both a physical allergy- the body becomes used to it and a mental obsession- an intense craving that is pursued no matter what the consequences. It is difficult, if not impossible for an alcoholic to stop, and stay stopped without help, but to be helped, the person must have a desire to stop, which it sounds like he may have. No matter what he does, you need to take care of yourself, and alanon can help you to cope with and find practical solutions to the issues that alcoholism creates. Let us know how you're doing and don't hesitate to ask any questions. Take care- GM
