???: splotchy red skin & asthma symptoms after drinking

by alisa104, Nov 09, 2008 08:36AM
I'm not real sure if this is where I should post this but my boyfriend went out last night and drank about 15 beers and said he had 1 1/2 liquor drinks on top of that. Normally each night he consumes about 6 or more beers a night. On a few occasions his body gets splotchy - chest & head only - and has a very hard time breathing - about to pass out - and gets chills. He has gone to the emergency room many times for this but no one seems to know what it is. And everything from the stuff I read says that alcohol poisoning side effects are totally different than what I have described here. I'm positive this has something to do with his drinking habit - has anyone had this happen before and recieved medical help for it? He knows that he has to stop drinking like that but... I really wish I knew if it was from liver failure, alcohol poisoning or what - guess I just need to put a name on it so we can get him medical help (aka AA - I know).

I have a friend who is allergic to alcohol.  His brother is as well.  Must be a genetic thing.
HE stopped drinking.   Took care of the problem.  He would rash up and lay in bed shaking.  I would say your boyfriend had best seek help and quit drinking.  Wish the best for him and you. tjack

Alisa, Obviously, this happens when he drinks, so why doesn't he realize it is alcohol related.

Alcohol affects the central nervous system which affects breathing and the nerves in our skin, soon if not already, he will have headaches most likely of the migraine type. Does he have tingling of his extremeties?

The man is sick, an alcoholic first and foremost.  It does not matter if his liver is ill.  If someone is drinking and getting a reaction and still drinks to the point where they cannot breathe well and drinks again, they are alcoholic. Treat the alcoholism, treat the symptoms, and possible liver problems.

Being an alcoholic is not a crime.  Alcoholics are not bad people, they are not weak.  They just cannot turn off their need to drink.
Best wishes Alisa
