4 days sober

I'm 4 days sober...5 days tomorrow. I started noticing a pain in my side that would not go away. Seemed to hurt more in the mornings, particularly after I had wine. I don't drink hard liquor, if that matters.   Hence the non drinking.SEems to feel better now -- as do I.  I scored pretty high in one of those tests for alcoholism..not chronic..but heavy...I'm coming up on the first weekend...which will be tough.  I hold down a job. Manage a family, but for the past few years have drained a six pack a night.  Wake up mildly hung over.  Weekend days have been typically spent drinking beer, watching sports, hanging out with my young daughter at the house.  I have busy weeks, so quiet weekends at home are very welcome.     But I miss it. I really do.  Have a work function tonight and with the weekend coming up I feel scared..sounds weird, but I think it's fear and I'm nervous about it.  Part of me thinks it's ok to have one or two..another part says no it's not. Any words of advice?  Sorry to unload on the group. Thanks for listening.

This is why we are here so "upload" away :)
Welcome! Well done on not drinking for the past few days. I am sober and have been for a few years but today is my most important day, staying sober today is the most important thing I will do today, to stay sober I will do what ever it takes without question. I will stay away from the first drink, that is the one that will matter, that is the one that will bring misery, pain and an end to the happy fulfilling life I have today.
I learned very early on that I could not get sober with out some help, I need that help today as much as I did when I first got sober, I can forget the sometimes the horrible place alcohol brought me to. I go to AA. I go and I listen to new people sharing their experiences and their hope, this reminds me that I am and will always be just one drink away from misery,I share my experience of what it was like when I was drinking and what it is like now that I am sober, if this helps someone get sober then this is good.
I also learned to avoid occasions that involve drink, a diabetic cant have sugar or it can kill them eventually, I know if I drink it will kill me eventually but in the meantime I will loose every thing that is dear to me, family & friends deserve better.

Congradualations on your efferts thus far. Also welcome to Medhelp. Dont be sorry for asking for advice, that is why we are all here. I'm not sure what alcoholism test you took but the fact that you are here and your wanting to know if its okay to have a couple of drinks indicates the you have a drinking problem. I would recommend sobriety is what your goal should be. Also a physical from your doctor would probably be a good idea. Be completely honest with your doctor about your drinking so that he/she can better help you. A blood lab test will be needed and will let your doctor know how your liver is doing.

Do you really want your young daughter to see you having one after another and possibly getting drunk. People that drink begin to build a tolerence to the alcohol so more and more is needed to get the same effect.

When I quit a little over a year ago i was drinking 23 beers a day. I let it sneak up on me and control my life. I was spending $600 a month on my habbit. I let it get the best of me and when I was 38 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis end stage (c). keep hanging in there my friend, your off to a great start. dont end up like me!
