Maybe you could go and attend an "Open" meeting of AA, and listen to the (one) speaker of the meeting . There you can obtain the Big Book and the 12 Step Book, and maybe one of the Daily Inspiration Books there. It might be helpful to read what AA is about, and then make a decision whether it's something that you might want to get involved with .

Thinking of you. and hope you're having a fine sober weekend friend.

I can't agree more with ibizan!  If you want to read some wonderful words of a woman who is now 2 yrs sober and how she managed to escape her party life that was a downward spiral, I recommend you search "sober senorita".  Her blog captures real life...the good, the bad, and the ugly and why living a sober life is such a wonderful thing...a gift.
Best of luck!

You've received some AWESOME suggestions here by many experienced forum members!I can't top it...I've been sober for 31 years, one hour at a time, one day at a time, one event at a time.I COMPLETELY removed myself from bars,drinking/drugging friends,ALL of it!AA/NA helped me....i took what i could use and left the rest! And I stuck w/the WINNERS in there. There are those who don't walk what they talk....i steered clear of them there and do so to this day in my personal life!

I totally understand were u are coming from.  I am an alcoholic been drinking 15 yrs I'm 24 yrs old, alcohol has caused so much bs on my life it's unbelievable seriously. but being the alcoholic I am, I still drink here and there, some ppl say if ur an alcoholic u can't hisjust have one, Well guess what I can just have one, bc I remember the hang overs the problems I try not to get drunk bc of it, my husband wouldn't allow me to drink but now he will sometimes drink wit me and allow me bc I've learned to change y behavior when drunk.  But ppl on here will not agree wit me but other is my opinion and this is what works for me, bc to say id never drink again is a complete lie even thoe everything I have suffered,  but, now me and my husband understand what it is my marriage is stronger and the best it's been a while sorry just talking alot but my point is I feel ya completely

Step One: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. Are you there yet? Try and check out Alcoholics Anonymous in Wikepedia and see if something resonates with you. Good luck with it. We're here to talk. so. "Keep Coming Back".

i lost "everything" custody of my son for five years, until i blood/urine tested every second day for two years
for ,..
an alcoholic really can and will "go to any lengths" to quit drinking
and hopefully the motivating factors in your  life
will lead you to quitting drinking
and you will learn to cope in other ways in your life
oxy codone users are going on methadone
alcoholics are turning to medical marijuana
many quit with nothing to replace
it just depends on where your head is at my fellow alcoholic

ah , i just read your status,
it's says that you're about to lose everything? that's pretty harsh and usually the right time to .. yeah, just quit......
i find quitting smoking a lot harder than quitting drinking
and when i say drinking, i mean drinking a lot to the point of having a low tolerance and not being able to drink without getting stinking black out drunk

it's so important that a person that is ready to quit drinking, that they walk away from their own family (as my husband did)
although he has we have (we both quit in '99)  friends that drink,
we just see them when they're not drinking
although our friend and contractor is not able to quit for even a full afternoon and we put up seeing him even though he's totally obnoxious at times
needing to drink whilie we're driving
leaving empties in the car
having to have a drink to do just about any job

one thing though, never has it ever been thought or said in this house
that we miss drinking
although we both had many consequences in our lives

so what are the consequences of your drinking?

By taking it one day at a time
By taking it one event at a time
By taking it one hour at a time
By not taking that 'first' drink (one is too many 'cuz one is never enough)
By finding new things to do socially (if You don't drink You will find it's not so fun to hang out in bars with People who are drinking - everyone who becomes inebriated will behave in an inebriated fashion in one way or another - You will become aware of this in others if You remain sober YourSelf)
By finding new friends to do new things with
By going to AA to find new, supportive friends who also don't make alcohol the 'focus'
By educating YourSelf on how the body absorbs alcohol -
Learn that Each and Every drink You take is taking it's toll and that it's
     accumulative (the damage)
Learn that alcohol is a neurotoxic, psychoactive drug.

etc., etc., etc

If You will open Your mind to learning the ravage alcohol wreaks on Your Body, Your Mind, Your Loved Ones, Those Who Love You - I guarantee You will find many more  important reasons not to drink than I have suggested here

Regards,
Tink
