9 Days Sober w/ A Dry Mouth & Headaches...

Hi All... Nice to join your forum.  I've been a functioning alcoholic for 25 years or so.  4 or 5 Miller Lites after work, and whatever I felt like on the weekends (8 or 10 per day I guess).  Finally put the beer down 9 days ago.  It was strange... I drank a beer and suddenly felt pain in my upper abdomen.  I drank a second one and the pain got worse & my abdomen bloated.  So, I haven't had one since.  The pain is gone, but some of the bloating is still there.  I also quit smoking because I read that is also really hard on your organs.  Anyhow... my question is this... Has anyone else experienced sort of a dry mouth after walking away from alcohol?  And... my eyes feel dry all the time.  I have been drinking a ton of water & herbal tea, but I still feel dehydrated & get headaches.  I hardly ever used to get headaches... new to me.  Thanks...

Glad to hear your doing well abstaining from alcohol! Do you have a good support system? It helps having Family and Friends pulling for you! Kicking the nic stick......I understand my friend. It's part of the process. It sounds like your serious about changing things in your life and it will happen. Knocked down, get back up, shake off the dust, carry on!  Keep posting your progress. I like seeing success!

Well... the headaches and dry mouth have improved.  Going to have to deal with the smoking a little bit later.  Still haven't had a drink tho... that is going well.  Thanks for the support.

Yes, definitely!

Its the worst. Its why Ive never been able to go more than 7 days without drinking since I was in middle school.

Try drinking more water, it helps alot!

Ha Ha,
In my other battle, I hope the one with the sharp teeth is the loser!! We shall see. I tried the patch back in the day when I was into Stephen King novels. I had to stop the patch. I would wake up drenched in sweat....nightmares were unrelentless! Glad to hear your doing well. I must say it is a lot to commit to at one time. I can only give you this today..... It's not how many times you fall, it's how many times you get back up! It took me 6 tries to stop smoking but I finally beat that demon. Drinking has not been an option for me for quite a few years now. The thought hasn't seriously crossed my mind. Having the Hepatitis c virus sneaking around my system for 30yrs has put an end to that luxury.
BTW   I don't have an answer for your original question. To be honest I forgot what it was, just felt the need to give you some support and encouragement!  Success to you on your new journey.    JM
P.S. No looking at my evil dragon before sleep!!

Thanks... things seem to be improving... although I had a wicked dream last night about possums and pigs.  They had a helluva fight, and the evil pigs w/ the sharp teeth won.  LOL  Have NO idea where that came from.  Haven't had a drink now since the 1st.  Not smoking either... although for now I'm wearing half a patch.  Seems to be going okay overall.  I'm committed :-)

Hi fifties,
Sounds to me like your system is detoxifying. A GOOD thing! There is a lot of chemicals and substances your body is used to having and you will probably be feeling a little uncomfortable for a while. Stay the course, you will not regret it, EVER!!

I had a full physical last year.  I also had surgery this past July... and had a pre-surgery work up done in June. No issues.
