I agree with gnarly, alcohol DT can kill you and should be medically supervised.
I have never been to an AA meeting, nor will I. I don't do group meetings. Not much of a people person. I don't see why it is a benifit to do it iin person when all that does is make me uncomfortable? "they", whoever they is, say it's good to step out of your comfort zone; I like my comfort zone. That's why I call it my comfort zone, it's comfortable.
I am on day 117 of sobriety, it does take support. I have found mine on this site. There are many people here that will help you if you let them. You just have to find the ones that are for you. I believe all of them mean well, but some of them can turn you, or atleast me, off in a hurry. Above all, you need to believe in yourself.
Kyle - Did you attend AA meetings??
ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL CAN KILL YOU!!!!! you need to be medically supervised get to a detox center this is beyond the scope of a home detox..........Gnarly
""you may have to leave your drinking buddies in the dust"""
That's great advice. You have to change your daily routine as well. You don't go near bars or stores where you used to make your purchases. You keep an exact list of the foods and beverages you'll have for meals all week. Don't even use vanilla extract, thats how careful you need to read the ingredients. Seem like over the top to you? Then you set yourself up for a fall.
I quit 24 years ago. I was much younger, so the physical part was not hard at all, like you said. And you nailed it - it is the mental game, habits, that will creep up and bite you in the butt.
I was a hard weekend drinker, not much during the week, so I had to re-learn how to enjoy weekends without booze. That took a couple of months. Also, dinners, special occasions, holidays, birthday parties...You name it. I drank. A very important part is the friends you have - if you really want to quit, you may have to leave your drinking buddies in the dust, and you know who they are. Most folks will understand, some won't, but you are doing the right thing. If I hadn't stopped, I'd be dead. Period. Good luck.
not that long, sports drinks and boost and good none greesy food. its the mental part thats the biggy
how much were you drinking??
