Am I doing damage?

Hey everyone hope all is well, I just have a quick question that has been bouncing around my head for sometime.
I didn't start drinking till quite late (when I went to uni in fact) at the age of 20/21, it normally went to a pattern of drinking once every 2 weeks on a night out around 4-6 drinks and this went on throughout the 3 years. Now out of university (graduating with a first!) I have started to run my own freelance business however in the last year and a half I have noticed a slight increase in my drinking habits.

I seem to be drinking once or twice a week now due to more social events and to relax these sessions vary from 2-6 drinks (anymore and I would hit the floor!). Most weeks its once a week however in the past few its been a couple of times, hence why im starting to wonder... Am I doing any permeant damage to my liver?

If I continued doing this will I scar my liver? I know there is no right or wrong answer as everyone is different its just Im confused how some people can drink for a life time and be ok while others seem to be dead within 10 years! Just want reassurance I guess that my drinking 1/2 times a week I can still live a life past my 50's...

Thank you for reading :)

Well I decided to go private and get a test done waited two weeks for the results and got the results back a few days ago... my liver is perfectly fine.! :D

The doctor said my liver is just as good as the day I was born and is perfectly normal. Have to admit this did open my eyes a little however so will start to take note of my drinking habits but at the same time still enjoy a good social life and a few drinks with friends.

Thank you for all the help you gave :)

we are all so different.
for example:
my brother has been a daily alcohol consumer for over 30 yrs and is still alive.  he seems to function, but his brain is showing obvious signs of severe damage.
i turned to alcohol to self medicate for a period of less than 2 yrs and i was doing severe damage to my liver and other organs.  i am lucky to be alive and i would NOT be had i kept drinking.

tink gave you a powerful reply. great information.  heed it

drinking is NOT worth it and drinking causes damage. period.
alcohol is a poison and there is no way of guessing whether a certain amount will damage you or not.
our brains soak up the alcohol like a sponge.  it really damages the liver and kidneys and other organs.

i suggest reading the cirrhosis forum on here and decide if that is how you want to live

I can't answer if You've already hurt Your liver but I can tell You that alcohol tolerance is progressive AND so is the damage.  Alcohol is an addictive substance - which totally explains alcoholism.

My favorite line is:
If You leave a (any) cucumber in the brine long enough, it WILL become a pickle - Some cucumbers become pickles sooner than others but leave them in the brine and eventually EVERY cucumber becomes a pickle - and so it goes with us.  Everyone who imbibes alcohol (brine) long enough, often enough, will eventually become addicted to alcohol - The EXTENT of damage done to the liver, the central nervous system; etc., etc. varies from person to person - but know that damage IS occurring.

As far as the body is concerned, alcohol is a poison - it's one of the few substances that can penetrate the lining of the stomach - it has a toxic affect on nerve tissue and can damage the nervous system.

Notice how You get thirsty when You drink?  Your kidneys are sending water directly to Your bladder instead of reabsorbing it into the body.  Your body will lose 4 x's the amount of liquid it gains - and Your body will actually take water from the brain (causing it to decrease in size) and it pulls on the membranes that connect the brain to the skull - that's why You get headaches/hangover.  I could tell You more, a LOT MORE but suffice it to say that I think You SHOULD worry about Your liver.....and other major organs and systems as well!!  I suspect if we were all to learn the dynamics of how our bodies process alcohol that we would all choose not to drink in the first place - we need to understand how our bodies assimilate alcohol.  We would be afraid.  We would be very afraid and We would make better choices from the get-go.  I'm sure of it.

Thank you for the fast reply, no I wouldn't consider myself an alcoholic on the basis I only drink once/twice a week and always can stop when I need to. If there wasn't the voice saying 'dont damage your liver to much' id probably drink more a couple more but could never do it more than 3 times a week.
