Detox

by MlovesD, Feb 06, 2008 09:21AM
How soon after your last drink does the withdrawal symptoms kick in? How does it start, when does it get really severe? My boyfriend works ten hour days and says he's fine, so I'm curious to know when does it start to get unbearable? And I do know that detox lasts anywhere from 3-14 days.

How much does you bf drink. You say he works hour 10 hr days, I hope not as a barteneder and that was not intended to be a joke. Something makes you think he has a drinking problem so spill it---what is it??

hey,my boyfriend is an alcoholic and ive seen withdraw symptoms come as soon as 20 min after he finishes a beer. it depends on how much they drink and the severity of the alcoholism.

To be honest, I don't know how much he drinks. He travels with his job (nope, not a bartender), so I have no way of knowing anymore. I think he once told me he drinks a bottle of vodka a day. He's not much of a beer drinker. It's vodka. I know that doesn't help much in determining the effects. I know that when he's with me, he's probably not drinking as much or drinking when I'm at work or not around. I've seen the effects of the shakes, and he gets red eyes and puffiness in the face. But that's probably more so because he's drinking less??? I'm assuming, anyway.

yeah those symptoms could be beacuse hes drinking less. he may be trying to wein himself off of it slowly. you might also see vomiting, irritability, sweating, and of course shaking if hes really going through it bad enough. but i dont think it makes much of a difference if he drinks vodka or beer. with my Boyfriend i have seen the same effects with hard liquor and beer, its just his behavior when hes drunk thats different.

i was into vodka...symptoms started about the second day...i didn't know what was happening so i got a carbon monoxide tester...thought that was the problem at first..then i was afraid to sleep in my house..didn't sleep right...then by the 4th day i thought i was going to die...i made it to work and had a friend take me to the medical center up here....thats when it was real bad...my symptoms lasted 6 months...i still have some...but the real bad like not knowing if i was going to die at any point lasted about a month...i have to say this is also when i found out i had hep c..so that just makes it real bad...but if someone is drinking a fifth of vodka a day i would get them help...they could die...billy

He told me today that he was drinking about a pint a day, and now he's not drinking as much. I just spent an hour on the phone with his sister about it. She's a nurse who sees this type of patient fairly regularly, so I think I'm getting some good information. I hear it kicks in about 24 hours after the last drink, and I know what to expect now and what to do if it gets really bad...as far as DT's and siezures. Hopefully it doesn't get to that point, but I'll be prepared to take him to the ER if I have to. Thanks for all the info!
