Fatty Liver

Fatty Liver

I am 34 yrs old, drinking a moderate amount of alcohol everyday. Recently I underwent an ultrasonography of abdomen which shows mild hepatomegaly with fatty infiltration of liver. Subsequently I done the blood test for liver function which shows Bilirubin - 1.0 mg/dl, SGOT - 37 U/L, SGPT - 61 U/L. My blood sugar fasting is 100 mg/dl & serum urea - 28 mg/dl, creatinine 1.4 mg/dl.

I am taking UDLIV 300 twice daily with tablet of Vitamin B comples and LIV52 syrup twice daily.
I want to know whether my elevated SGPT level will come down to normal & may I continue drinking along with medication ?

It seems that your liver is only slightly irritated. AST/ALT levels are just barely elevated and your bilirubin is okay. The liver is a main organ and sure you can continue to drink but you will also continue to further damage your liver.

The LIV52 that your doctor is giving you is said to increase liver function an also speed up the creation of new liver cells. You know what then, It sounds like I should have been taking this stuff all along, before I was diagnosed with end stage cirrhosis of the liver. This medication might help but no way can they guarantee full protection for you liver. Other wise bars would sell it and we could drink one before we tied one on that night! ha ha

I'm sorry but you need to not drink at all while taking these medications. Give your liver time to heal and your levels return to normal. Think of this as a warning to stop drinking completely. Trust me, you don't get very many. It's very possible to go from having a fatty liver to a cirrhotic liver in less than a year, and you dont want to be in my shoes. I was diagnosed when I was 38.

Look into your options that you feel you will need to give you the strength to quit entirely. Many people choose AA or rehab. Some consult their a doctor and some manage to find the strength to do it on their own. You should be aware of the dangers of withdrawals from alcohol. If you would like further advice on quitting drink please let me know and I'll be glad to help you figure out what you need to do. There are alot of very helpful members in this forum that want nothing more than to see you succede and stop hurting yourself and your loved ones. Alcohol is a terrible substance when being abused. i wish you the best!
