Fed up with enabler

by feddupp, Jul 26, 2009 09:26PM
My sister age (fifty-ish) quit her job, can't find another, never goes to a doctor, and depends on my mother to fight her battles and pay her bills. She gets drunk and belligerant every night. I got extremely upset with my mother and even though I apologized for yelling, my mother doesn't want to speak to me ever again. I'm not the least bit jealous that my mother does things for my sister. But I am VERY upset that my mother is an enabler because it feels sooooooooo wrong and so irresponsible to contribute to a person's alcohol problem. I'm serious about my mother's anger at me. In her family, you don't speak to people either for ten years or the rest of their lives if you're mad at them.

So should I just forget about my mother?

No ur not gonna forget about ur mother..she's your mother!u need to pratice what i advised in ur other post about ur sister......it is highly unlikely these 2 women will change......ur mother gets something out of being taken advantage of...she probably has too intense of a need to be needed!Eleanor Roosevelt once said no one takes advantage of you without ur consent!
