LOOKING FOR SOME ADVICE FOR RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC BROTHER

hi there, i just want to say 1st of all how proud i am of my older brother, that he has managed to overcome his alcohol addication, he is like a completley different person, the brother i always remembered. no more violence, no more attitude no more lending money and the main thing is no more worrie or stress! its like a miracle. we honestly thought we were going to be arranging his funeral!

ok the main point of me writing here today is because my brother is now on a programme where he is having to take several different tablets for his previous alcohol dependency, one includes an anti-craving, which am not sure what it is called, but now that he is taking it he cannot use a product that contains alcohol or can use very little, otherwise he gets ill, my brother is someone who takes care of his appeareance and uses hair gel, and usually takes longer in the bathroom than his gf! he's a fan of tomato sauce, vinegar, mouthwash, body deoderant etc but again because of the tablets he cannot use these i was wondering if anyone knew of any sites i could look on for non-alcoholic products or give me any advice on which products he should go for? it is so unfortunate that almost every item out there today has some form of alcohol in it. i did not realise how serious it would be, i thought it would be a case of you cant drink alcohol whilst on the tablets not to be careful of the products that contain alcohol too!

no problem, i am happy to help. if you come up empty handed on the net, let me know and i will ask around at my meeting tomorrow, the AA i attend has alot of old-timers that work closely with the rehabs, so i am sure they would know how to help.

well done to you as well, i know how difficult it must have been for you to give up drinking, i know how difficult it was for my brother to admit that he had a problem, but like evrything, it takes time, fortunatley in this instance the time came. and also well done to you for offering your support to fellow memebers, it is much appreciated, it is always good to talk to someone who knows exactly what some have been going through or to have actually been there yourself, it must be an inspiration to members to read your story and have that belief that there is "light at the end of the tunnel" even though that tunnel may have been never ending.

i am so happy for your brother, you must be so proud and relieved this disease did not do further damage to him. i just wanted to respond to let you know people are out here, and to be patient. i know from my experience inpatient in rehab, i could not use any products containing alcohol as well. and they were able to accomodate my needs, mouthwash, i know i ate past sauce and pizza alot, they gave me deoderant. so it must be possible to find out there. i would start by googling it, if not maybe call up a local hospital with an addiction unit and maybe they can tell you some brand names,etc...good luck and i hope this helps.
