Liver Function

by narla, Oct 24, 2009 08:18AM
2 yrs ago I had a Liver Function Test  it was slightly elevated at 53 My doctor didn't seem worried, 9 weeks ago I had the test again and my doctor called me in to discuss it,It had more than doubled in 2 yrs to 116,does any one know if this is dangerous, and is it repairable now I've stopped drinking and the codeine.I will be having more blood tests done but she wants to wait 3 months from when I became clean that's about another 4 weeks and I'm starting to worry, does anyone have an answer.

Hi narla,
The liver has an amazing capacity to recover if you treat it well. Keep drinking and using and it will eventually give up. I had high readings and was hospitalised for liver damage but it eventually recovered after I stopped drinking. Worrying about it is a futile act, stick to your recovery plan, don’t drink or use and when the time comes have the necessary tests then deal with things as your doctor recommends.

I've known this woman since 1990 whose been sober 4 years now.I have seen her nearly drink herself to death and waste to 85 lbs and have to use a walker to get around. She is 5"8!She was violently ill jaundiced and was on a list for a liver transplant. She stopped the drink took meds ate a healthier diet and today does not need that liver transplant!Keep the faith dear!:)

our bodies are truly remarkable.....we can put them thru abuse and neglect....and they heal.....i;ve seen amazing things happen with ppl who've recovered from cirrohsis and pancreatitis due to drinking. In recovery we do learn to regard these bodies of ours as sacred temples and treat them as such!

As long you stay sober - you got a chance for the recovery of your liver.  Good Luck

i have heard the same, my father went through it, not just his liver but his heart too. certain organs will repair themselves if givn time to rebuild, i was told the liver is one of them, but like the experts say, no more drinking and especially with meds. gosh i was so lucky i didnt suffer from health issues....i used to "activate" my pain meds back in the day with a shot of Jager...unreal, i was a real piece of work. someone was watching out for me....

good luck,
