Sober and humbled this 2nd Easter w/o a drink

What a great Good Friday to be 38 soon to be 39, alive and sober. A little over a year ago I was a raging alcoholic.  I'm still an alcoholic, once one always one,but refuse to ever touch any of that stuff again.  The things in life that you miss out on are so many when trying to plan your activities around the almighty drink.  I realized it but was held captive by the desire to drink and was too self centered and selfish to change until I realized I had to or this crap was gonna kill me. And the times I've missed with my wife and three little ones traded for a date with a bottle.  I just kept wanting more and more until eventually it turned into an everyday routine.   And aren't we so good at hiding it when we want to?   I encourage everyone struggling with this poison to seek out help if you can't quit by yourself safely.  I was lucky apparently no major withdrawals just anxiety and a few restless nights.  Find a group or something for support. Not to push religion or anything on anyone but church did it for me and there are groups called celebrate recovery at a lot of churches that could be quite supportive and helpful. You only live once.  Try life sober it's worth it.  I truly feel blessed to be alive and much happier this Easter free from the chains of alcohol.  "oh praise the one who paid my debt and raised this life up from the grave". Happy Easter to all.
