Temporary back pain with first drink

Temporary back pain with first drink

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what I am experiencing.  I have many many years of drug and alcohol use.  All blood tests are normal, but, these days, if I have a drink, say a gin and tonic, and if I drink it down within 5 or 10 minutes, I will experience dull, upper back aches that last for about 5 minutes along with a really bad feeling (like I don't want to talk to anyone until this aching goes away).  Then I am fine and can have another drink (slowly) with no problem.  I've never heard of this.  Am I a gonner?  Can anybody help?  I have asked on a few other sites in the past and have gotten no response.  Thanks.

Hello. What you're experiencing could be a symptom of organ damage or other condition. In some cases, especially with compromised digestive function, an initial drink can cause discomfort, but due to the anesthetic effect of alcohol, the following drinks, though equally damaging, do not result in a painful reaction. Given the location of the pain, common sense would dictate a kidney problem. However this and other conditions should be ruled out by a professional, preferably a GI specialist. Over time the use of alcohol and other drugs can damage nearly all parts of the body. This may be a warning sign of a worsening condition that is treatable. Take care, GM

Boogieman is right about the symptoms- the first drink causes pain, and the pain is dulled with additional drinks.  I drank my way through pains in my right side and ended up having a liver issue.  Are you a goner? No one on this site can tell you that, but the body can heal a lot of damage with some longer term sobriety  Go see a doctor and get a CT Scan of that area of your body.

Also, think about this:  You're feeling a pain when you drink, yet you still proceed to a second drink.  I know what it's like....I did the same thing.  The fact is, normal people don't do that- only someone with an alcohol problem will continue drinking in spite of health issues or symptoms. It's time to get serious- you shouldn't wait until some future day to stop, because the future is here and it's knocking at your door.

I don't want to make you overly worried.......I just want to stress the fact that you have a problem if you continue drinking through these symptoms.
