What's up with all the junk food?

What's up with all the junk food?

I have been sober now for 34 days!! But what's up with the cravings? I cann't stop eating junk food or sweets. I've also been drinking lots of coffee but I'm not to worried about that. What do I do before I gain 20 pounds?

many of us have been there..good post by Burrpatch on this with the thirsty stuff!alcohol leaves behind residual sugar deposits in body......when drink gone cravings r  there!well better to be a tad over than drunk......many of us have and still do so love the sweets....i sure do but have learned to contain it after so many years...i think my body has regulated itself..but when first sober i would drink over 20 cups coffee a day and yeegads the chocolate and ice cream i did!

hello. the way i see it, my drinking was going to kill me, and when i drank i hardly ate at all. things have leveled off a bit but i still have cravings for mountain dew and peanut butter. in fact i have a jar of extra crunchy beside my bed that calls to me in the middle of the night. but it's been a while now since i woke up shaking, nauseous and desperate for unconsciousness. i can exercise to stay in shape but it doesn't do much for replacing brain cells. anyhoo, congrads on 34 and keep going! as long as we don't pick up the first one, we can deal with the other stuff. take care--gm

Booze is just loaded with sugar so you're body is craving it! I have 87 days clean and I still am craving sugar but instead i eat vitiams and drink plenty of water. Not saying I haven't cleaned up a whole box of cookies!!!! Good luck and take care

Try a half a teaspoon of cinammon a day. Also if you like it, try honey and cinammon on toast. Cinammon helps regulate insulin levels which have been screwed up by your drinking. I quit drinking 3 weeks ago and I had some cravings the first few days but now I'm doing ok and actually am losing weight. I know it probably sounds a little nuts. I googled it though and then I told my sister. She told me it's working wonders for her too! I was surprised, I was half suspicious it was a placebo effect. But there's lots of info on the net too. Check it out! Honey is also really good for you but I didn't read anything on it beyond that.

also recent research shows drinking coffee is good for people who've quit drinking. It detoxes the liver and helps you resist the craving to drink. I drink 2-3 cups a day now but one of big side effects of quitting drinking for me was fatigue..

That's good to know about the coffee being good for you. I was wondering about that. I probably drink about 5 or 6 cups of coffee a day with cream and suger...you would think that that would cure my sweet tooth:) But I'll try the cinnamon and honey trick and see what happens. Thanks.

everyone else is right- your body craves sugar as an alcohol replacement.  You can also try honey in tea or even in water, to help you with cravings.  Allow yourself a nice desert while your getting sober though- you deserve it, and it really helped me out.

IN fact, I stopped eating deserts all together when I was drinking.  I missed them, and I really enjoy it now (go easy).

Good job though.

Everybody gave you good advice.  To me, it seems i just have an addictive personality and change one addiction to another.  eating, drinking, pain pills etc.  So, to me it is mental and probably physical also.  You are doing great.  Keep it up!  TJack
