Why can't I stop?

I work in a club enviroment and need a few drink to get into it, but once I have one they all just snowball from there it's like I go from straight to hammered...I need to be a bit more "normal" at work and not a drunk mess thats stumbling all over the place. So why can't I just have 1? I don't drink much at home and if I do it's red wine, but at work I do any shot you give me...

well i was scratching  my dogs *** while i was reading that post.. so i can relate..they like to put their front legs up on me while i'm on the computor and get their big heads in the way of the keyboard...you know in march of 06 a really neat dog i had died if cancer...i stopped drinking cold turkey...i just didn't want to drink or anything..i felt so guilty cause i thought of all the things i should have done to make that dogs life better...the last week was awfull...my dog just loved me so much i really almost died...3 or 4 days after he died i went into withdrawl...then not knowing what was wrong with me and having no info on being an alcoholic and thinking i was dieing i got some blood work done and found out i had hep c which made the withdrawl way worse...anyway enjoy your dogs ...billy

my friend met this guy while the both were down/out in their lives.....all they have in their view is each other!she puts up with a tremendous amount of manure from him the size of the Sears Tower!he doesn't come to see her dance for he gets in fights with other men there....he is a poor role model for her kids.....but she is one of those women that cannot stand to b alone.....like the song sez even a bad love is better than no love at all....i think its more lonely to be with one who treats u like this guy does her!Better companionship with my dogs/cats!thy're loyal,faithful..and DON'T LIE!

yea..there are some pretty hot chicks out there that arn't that young....i wonder if your friend the dancer met her husbands while dancing...seems like a dancer would have better luck as far as the abuse thing goes meeting guys that enjoy similar hobbies away from work....many of us get hooked up with opposites but as we get older we wonder why we didn't hook up with someone that likes to do the stuff that we like to do..and why do we ignore stuff ....billy

i dunno working.....i have a friend whose 35...been dancing since she was 16!she looks very good..a most UNUSUAL dancer...no drink/no drugs but married 2 very abusive alcoholic/pothead sociopath.But the laws in Ohio have changed with strip clubs and their $$$$$ is getting greatly reduced.Check out Ohio strip club laws now for how the right wing moral majority has infected this working genre!no name- its good the light has gone on upstairs in ur head with ur drinking...but i predict at ur young age and the lure of the $$$$ u make there will b more misery 4 u down the road.....and then u must choose!do u have any children?

you have to really think of what your going to do after you retire from dancing which won't last real long...young grils will come in and take your place...its good that your looking out for problems that will happen with alcohol use...i have 5 daughters and i worry about this kind of stuff...and as a parent it's hard to know whats going on...i'm totally honest about everything with them....anyway....i think your going to do alright...good luck...billy

yes younglady ur in a dilemma..the lure of the $$$$$$..how much of that do u actually save?any drug use/habit?club probly don't care if ur trashed on stage just so long as u get up there and put on show for the slobbering fools with a smile on ur face right?i've worked with dancers who had to find another line of work and sacrifice the almighty $$$$$ for their sanity.Regained their dignity as well!Good 2 hear from u...was wondering what was goin on with u!

Thanks and sorry so long to get back to you....Yes I do dance so as for me finding another job right now is out of the question the money is great and so is the freedom (exeption of alcohol) I've been dancing for 7 yrs and am 25. I know the damage it can do and I don't go out to bars or clubs and barley drink at home. I do though have alcoholism in my family and I was there at one point with the drinking EVERY night and getting trashed...I'm kinda caught  between a rock and a hard place I guess.

My father destroyed his life and gave his wife and children hell because of alcohol addiction. I have cared for alcoholics in my work and understand the damage their drinking creates. Alcoholism can mean, and often does mean, vomiting, loss of bowel control, physical illness and mental damage. The future is not a pretty sight but It's terrific that you are recognizing that you have a big problem now. I hope you can decide it is best to stop drinking alcohol because you sound at great risk of becoming an alcoholic. Instead, without it, you are a young woman with lots of potential and I wish you Good Luck and good management darl.

You are in quite a dilemma.  You need to make a decision and its sink or swim.  You already know that the drinking is controlling you and now its effecting your job.  Its that simple. I can tell you right now that if you continue things will not improve or change.  Keep us posted please.

are you 22??  it's too bad that you can't control your drinking...i don't think you ever will..looks like you'll have to get another job...all kinds of problems will start ...phisical and mental...and i'll bet your friends don't tell you you have an alcohol problem...good for you for not drinking while pregnant...it's a drag raising kids with a drinking problem...at least i didn't get violent..but there were things said that weren't that great...you sound young..save your liver..good luck...billy

I definatly don't have a off switch...And working were I work and having to be happy and social well the only way I can do so is drink drink drink...I've been drinking started heavily at age 18 I was definatly for a while a social alcoholic, but when I quit when I was preganant I didn't have w/ds, but yet I craved champagne...I just need to learn how to control it, but how can you w/out quitting?

u've come to the right place!sounds like u don't have an OFF switch?and working in a wet environment will make u wetter!how long u been drinking for?drink ANY shot?hmmmmm....social drinkers don't/can't do that!my designated driver was a social drinker.from 9 pm til bars close he'd have 3 beers..3rd one get warm.i thought something wrong with him....something was wrong with ME!
