alchol addiction

Has anyone ever felt that they were an alcholic and afraid to admit it? I have thought that I have a problem. But do not know if I can quit.

Every alcoholic! That is the first hurdle that any recovering alcoholic has to jump. Once you admit you have the problem, you can then start working on your recovery. By asking that question on this forum, I think you know you have the problem and you are seeking help, so let me congratulate you for taking this step, and let you know that we are all here for you.

Yep, all of us.  I agree with the other posts.  You have made the first step.  I did the same thing about a month or so ago.  Have been going to AA.  Take that step next.
It has really helped me, plus i am seeing a therapist once a week also and taking Campral, a drug that helps the cravings.  It isnt a magic pill but with a little willpower it does work!  Life is so much better sober.  Keep posting and reading.  We are all here to encourage each other.  Best wishes to you.      I feel like that I need to go to aa. I am afraid that if I try I will fail. I have been having a desire to drink earlier in the afternoon. I feel like alchol has a hold on me and is not going to let go.

I am going on 53.Sober/clean now 24 years.Knew at 19 i drank alcoholically and the drug use was over the top.after 9 more years of drunken driving 5 stops for DUIS,and so grateful i never hurt anyone with my drunken driving, blackouts, hangovers, wasted $$$$$ om booze/drugs,hanging with some real lowlife folks and a lot of suicidal ideation i went to inpatient treatment, attended AA and NA,some rational recovery groups...i availed myself of all the recovery stuff out there i could....took what i could use and left the rest....and the first two years were the most difficult indeed...but that first step...finally admitting i was powerless over booze/drugs and it made me and my life unmanageable....and changeing my lifestyle....hour by hour...day by day....i have such a better quality of life today.Good luck to u.....keep us posted!give AA a try a couple times!

Hi Aims,

I've had a drink problem for years. I married a beautiful girl. She was the only one who knew about my problem until last week. I ended up in hospital for 4 days cos of my drinking. After about 13 years, i couldn't keep it a secret anymore. I told my 2 sisters, my mum & dad. Infact loads of people cos i figured the more people i told the more i was being watched. I'm having medication to help me with the withdrawal symptoms.

It's real difficult at the moment. It's been ten days since i last had a drink & i don't intend to let the drink beat me.

I know it's difficult to tell people & to come out of denial. Like i said it took me years but i am getting so much support from my friends & various alcoholic support groups it's making things easier.

Believe me, you can do it.

If you want to e-mail me my add is ***@****

You take care now

of course my dear. i feel your pain, i guess it takes everyone a while to WAKE UP and realize they have a problem, especially when you have plenty of people in your life trying to convince you that drinking yourself into oblivion every waking moment is totally acceptable. I can honestly say i've never had a steady good influence my entire life...all i have had to look up to is alcoholics, so i thought that becoming an alcholic myself was just "norrmal". Im 19, totaled two vehicles due to drinking and driving, gotten one DUI and suffered from various liver problems, AND I'M NOT EVEN OF AGE TO DRINK. just because for years...i didn't think i had a problem. certainly not everyone is as unlucky as me, my liver problems aren't just from drinking after all, but that certainly didn't help. i don't wanna scare you. i just want you to know better.
