binge drinking problem

binge drinking problem

For the past 2 years, I've been binge drinking every week to 2 weeks. When I do drink, I drink 3 to 4 days straight. I would drink 1 to 2 liters of rum on those 2 days. More then most people would drink in a few months. I'm doing it more now just because I'm not working at the moment. I start to drink when I was in my early 20s. I would never a social drinker because I'm a nervous person when I did drink I would get drunk on 2 or 3 glasses. I got a DUI last year but that didn't make me stop. I was force to go to AA but didn't like the praying and didn't really like the people and I've been to many different locations and they all really depressing and it gets me to think about drinking. I have a lot of free time on my hands and I want to get this problem fix. I really don't want to keep this pattern going anymore because I know it will kill my liver in 5 years. I keep myself healthy and I workout a lot. Would like to know what to do to keep me from getting drunk. When I get bored, I would drink.

I don't smoke or do drugs and want to get my life straight. I think I drink heavy because my parents are very controlling and I want to get my mind away for a bit and wish I didn't use alcohol to do so.

Thanks for posting.  I stopped about 5 1/2 yrs ago and have been sober a little over 4 yrs now.  When I first stopped I got involved with Intensive outpatient therapy as well as AA mtgs.  I know you said you didn't like them but did help me. I live in NJ and have been to many different mtgs.  Most of them have been pretty upbeat and supportive.  How much praying do they do where you're at?  We usually only say the serenity prayer or the Lord's prayer once during a mtg.  I too wasn't crazy about it at first and there are some folks who are more preachy than I care for but I couldn't let that get in the way of me getting sober.  Learning about the steps has done me a world of good.  I am fairly happy and at peace with my life as it is today.  My wife didn't like AA and has managed to stay sober for 5 1/2 yrs without it.  Maybe you could try indiidual or group counseling.  I wish you the best in getting your life straightened out.  If you have any questions or just wanna dump whatever is on your mind please don't hesitate to ask.  Be well!!!
