do i need impatient treatment?

I stopped drinking in Oct. after realizing that alcohol was getting a hold on me. I have a good sober support network and I go to a meeting a day. Last week I went out to lunch with an old friend and had a glass of wine. I havent had anything since then, my sponsor thinks I should go impatient.  What do you think?     Dove

I went through an out patient program and found it to be very educational.  I also got to meet some folks at different stages of alcoholism.  Some people were there whose lives were not yet turned upside down from this disease and some people were so very physically sick.  I was somewhere in the middle middle about to lose everything if some changes didn't get made.  The whole thing was eye opening.

The thing I need to keep in mind is that alcoholism is a progressive disease.  The only way for me to recover is to stay sober.  If I pick up again it will only be a matter of time before I am back to losing everything again.  

The question to ask is why would you go back to doing something that you know is not good for you?  You said alcohol was getting a hold on you.  Why give it a chance to latch on again?  Once we know the stove is hot do we touch it again to make sure?

My sponsor has helped me look at my behavior and has helped me get some insight as to why I do some of the things I do.  It has really helped.  I suggest you give it a try in regards to the wine with lunch situation.  What were the true motives for drinking that day?  Were you trying to fit in or maybe not ok with just having a soda or water?  Were you talked into it?  Or perhaps you might have forgot what alcohol can do at that moment.  Please understand that I am only throwing out questions to ask and that there is nothing suggestive by them.  It sounds like you are doing many of the right things in regards to mtgs. and having a sponsor.  Try talking to some of the folks at the mtgs with some good sobriety and see what they think.  Sometimes that live one on one can be very beneficial.  Good luck!!!!

You are already "lying" by not telling your friend the real reason you can't drink so just say you are on antibiotics or some other drug that will interfere with the booze.

Sara,I'm not ashamed either,I have told all my friends that I am an alcoholic,when strangers ask me why I don't drink I just tell them I don't need to drink to have fun lol

It's more fun watching others get drunk,just to see how their personalities change the more they drink.

i used to get a kick out of telling a waitress who would ask me if i wanted a drink w/dinner when out w/friends "No i cannot drink,i'm allergic 2 alcohol".She'd reply "oh my thats terrible what do u mean by that?"I'd say back "I break out in terrible spots"....like Akron,Cleveland,Youngstown.....very bad spots!!!!!hahahahaa!she'd look at me like ok wiseguy woman!Yawn...i dislike being around drunk ppl.....boring.....been there done that.....time to go home and hang w/the animals!early in sobriety i used to leave holiday parties b4 the drinking started.....got what i came for...good food and see a few folks i really liked!Am so rarely around drinking these days!

I am rarely ever around it either. We always have alcohol in the house but it never temps me at all. Strange that it has never bothered me though. Even when I quit I insisted on keeping my beer around until I really knew I was done with it. Then I just gave it away, 3 1/2 30 packs. The stores wont take alcohol back. Maybe I should've sold it on craigs list! ha ha I have a picture im gonna upload tonight to my photo's and I'll only leave it there for a couple of days. It's how I use to stock my beer fridge. Oh nevermind, I forgot you ladies struggle with not drinking also! WOW! This damn HE. lol Well I'll just say it looked really yucky then.

So this weekend I got a friend coming to visit me from Arizona. He's gonna bring me some alcohol free beer called O'dools. We use to party together all the time so that's why he's bring it. I imagine this will sure be a good test of my will power. I'm expecting it to taste like crap. It's like I mentioned before in other posts there is no way will I every allow it to to interfere with my recovery! It sure will seem strange though. Okay bedtime, Good night!

non-alcoholic beer is a misnomer to get a gullible public to buy it!in very tiny print on the bottle or can it says .05% alcohol!the problem i've seen w/this is that the alcoholic drinks this and the BEAST that never leaves our heads says.....oooolala u handled this ok...why not go get regular octane?I've heard it tastes crappy!its like if the industry came out w/NA Bacardi's or Beefeaters...why would i bother w/this?i'd go get regular!beware and take care our beloved rpoohbear!don't want to see that big fuzzy bearbutt get its fur singed!:)

Sarah in regards to one of your above posts, I am just like you! I have absolutely no off button when it comes to drinking at all. I have a very special glass just for my rum and cokes. It's the best one I ever found for the pourpose. It's the only glass in the house I use. Now it only holds my lemonade but it still reminds me of the day. I get really attatched to things that I find that fit me and my purpose perfectly, like my 7 year old leather sandles. ha ha

Look for an Astro Blender or Mix-n-blender.  I will find one and send you the website.  You need soft serve ice cream tho......Can you buy quarts or something from DQ?  Nutter Butter cookies are good in them too and so is Captain Crunch!!  Be right back with the website for those blenders.....

This is something like what you will need.  You dont want to use a regular blender or it will be soupy.  DO NOT ADD MILK either.  If you want to do the poor mans blender use a hand mixer, just make sure you cut up the Reese's in smaller pieces.

If you get a mixer for blizzards be very careful as those blades are sharp and will cut you up big time....How do i know this?  I have the scars to show for it!!

Has to be soft serve ice cream too.....

Did you see my Rum glass yet? We sometimes try and use our kitchen aid mixer and with patients it turns out good. Man all this talk I am starting to get tempted ha ha Its way to late though. I always got reese's in the cupboard though.
