hello everyone

hello everyone

Hi guys, I wanted to formally apologize for my last post. Also to ask a question. I have recently and finally been diagnosed about my constant n severe pain. I've got two bulged discs (one in my neck n one in my upper back) also with nerve compression, a straightened cervical spine, and degenerative disc disease. Well my neuro prescribed me soma. I was told that I need to watch myself because its got the barbituate meprobomate n is addictive. By the way, I've been sober about 4 weeks or so again. Has anyone had experience with this muscle relaxer and should I be worried? It's the only one that has worked for me so far. Any thoughts? Again, I do sincerely apologize for posting drunk.

This is very difficult. You need the soma yet you have an addiction problem. Why don't you consult with your doc? If the good outweighs the risks, then you should use the soma, and have your doc and you keep a close eye on your symptoms.

My neuro knows about my addiction. The reason he put me on it because it really works and literally nothing else will because I'm very sensitive to muscle relaxants. So he's going to keep a close eye on me. But everything I've read about soma is not to be on it more than 2-3 weeks yet I've got a 6 month supply, so I'm just confused.

Soma was the best choice.  Just stay in contact with your doctor.  Hopefully you wont need them for that long.

Congrats on 4 weeks sober.  Take it one day at a time~~sara

Do you have an AA Sponsor?
I'm sober 17 years and on soma. I know for a fact how sneaky and insidious this disease of alcoholism can be.
You have to constantly be in check with yourself as to wether you are taking the Soma to feel different or taking it for what it was prescribed for.
Your disease will justify your taking it for pain when you have a touch of excitement about the adjacent high it gives you. At that point if you friviously take it thinking.."its ok, ive been prescribed it" you have relapsed.
Be very sure you truly need to take it each time you do. Then take half.

I have heard it said our disease is always at our door doing push ups. This is forever true.

I hope I don't have to be on this long but I don't know how I could not be. My accident was about 16 months ago and the pain is here every day. If I start to feel a tolerance building I'm going to tell my doc. Thanks for the help :)

I hope the best for you. I too live with chronic daily pain, some days worse than others but always there.
Building a tolerance is one thing to watch for.  That happens with often use of Soma over
long  periods of time.
The main thing is our frane of mind when taking the med. Soma can mimic the ah feeling drinking gives us. Luckily tired is the result of more Soma so we are less likely to take a lot.
Avoid driving with it also.
Be good to yourself. Do take what helps you function physically!
I could easily take it to ease stress, that would be a relapse.
It is a pain in the butt maintaining sobriety, but very much worth it. I've been ill

15 of my 17 years sober. What I pass on to you comes from having struggled with sobriety before I finally got sober and struggled with life in sobriety...like you.
Sober makes it easier.
