I echo the same thing in your last sentence. Along with getting rid of some known stress factors and drinking, I have regain my sharpness. I used to think I function so much better with having a drink or two. I can see that I was just lying to myself to cope with stress.
They say all heavy drinkers have some form of fatty liver, because your liver cannot matabolize large volumes of alcohol. As a result, fatty cells accumulate in the liver. This a step on the way to alcoholic hepetitus and/or cirrhosis in the future. Fatty liver is reversable if you deal with the cause - in your case, heavy drinking. Your bloodwork will often be normal when you have this condition, but it is still there and it is not normal. I exercised and stayed in shape the whole time I was drinking heavily, and I tried to tell myself that "it's okay, because I feel great and I'm in better shape than most people". The problem is that your muscular condiationing and good cardiovascular health won't help your liver.
In answer to your question, I never had high enzymes during a bloodwork, but I do have fatty liver (diagnosed during a CT Scan). If you're curious about your status, you could always check yourself out. It may be an eye opener for you; ....it definitly was for me!
you guys are drinking a lot...keep an eye on your husband..withdrawals can be real trouble...and last a long time...mine were real bad for 3 months...and not much better for 6 months...i still have some drinking related stuff going on well after a year......not much though...my alts and asts were 80/110 a year ago..two weeks ago they were 56/71 almost normal....you can get a lot of your liver fuction back in time...but don't expect too much in a month...4 glasses of wine is way too much....drinking is so bad for the liver and your liver stores glucose for you brain and muscles to fuction..after you don't drink for a while you'll see how sharp you feel..good luck...billy
