Not completely true. When someone is put on the liver transplant list, survival rate within the next three years are considered. For this reason, most people who receive liver transplants are not alcoholic. But there are a small percentage of alcoholics who do receive liver transplants. In order to be considered a canidate for transplant, the person has to be sober for at least 6 months continuously. The best suggestion I can give is do some reasearch on recovery programs and show what you find to your husband. AA-Alcoholics Anonymous works for many alcoholics who many thought were hopeless. You could also look into 30 day treatment centers to initially get him. If your husband is resistant at first, you can try researching support groups for yourself such as Al-anon, or purchasing the Big Book of AA and reading the chapter-To the Wives. And always, if you are uncertain of what the doctor said, definitely get a second oppinion. I wish both you and your husband the best of luck and send best wishes, and remember to you both, this website is always here if you need support :)
