have you talked with a dr about this i know it is embarrising but what can you lose i worked on alcoholic ward they did give meds while coming off alcohol then they tapered you off of the meds then again it depends on your age and how long you have been on it ibizan is right about You needing a good support group., also as she says there is no cure  a doctor might help any withdrawls with meds but the cure as you speak is up to you you have to want to qiit and i am not saying it is easy but there are other things to live for that alcohol  it is up to you and i do hope that you make the right choice   seeing a whole new life or drowiing -in-sorrow this is a good group here and they do know what they are talking about              lots luck    jo

Self control. You will never be cured if you don't want to.

Have you heard of Prometa?  I was detoxed with Phenobarbitol & 5 days sober and then treated w/ this expensive & highly controversial treatment. I'm only sober a little over 3 weeks after being a heavy daily drinker for ~25 years - but I really have no cravings or desire to drink. My Dr. has patients with 20+ failed rehabs that have been sober after taking this "miracle cure" that can permanently end cravings after just 3 successive days of being treated w/ drug through IV then w/ follow-up meds & therapy (AA or other).
PLEASE NOTE - I'M NOT IN ANY WAY advocating or recommending this tre'netatment.  I personally have mixeds feelings about the treatment & joined the forum seeking input from others concerning the PROMETA treatment.  Again I'm just throwing something out to you to research & there's tons of info on the 'net.  I've  learned alot from the forums & AA is overwhelmingly the #1 recommended successful program.  Brand, I notied u asked how to treat alcohol, not how YOU can get sober. If the inquiry isn't 4 your problem but someone U care about it might impact member responses.  Either way the person, not the alcohol, needs to be treated. I wish you luck in your efforts to find the treatment & support group that will work 4 you.
