trying to quit

I am never going to quit drinking.  Am trying to white knuckle this addiction thing - but all I am is angry.  I don't even want to get out of bed.

Also, eat vitamin B, you particularöy need B1 and Folic Acid. Then I'd suggest fish oils capsules, Milkthistle capsules (google it, it's great for detoxing the liver!) and that you remember to eat healthy. Some people gain wieght by drinking, I lost becuase I only drank, rarely ate. get regular blood work done so they can tell you how your liver is doing!

Good luck, be strong! Blessings./ Pia

Thanks allmymarbles ….you raised a very important point that quiet a few alcoholics need to understand as some will inevitably be dx with diabetics due to there excess sugar intake when drinking….

Hyperglycaemia = high blood sugar or too much sugar in the blood.

Hypoglycaemia = low blood sugars or not enough blood sugar in the blood….both display  symptoms of  behaving in a drunken and aggressive manner and if you are a drunk then this has it own implications
…hypos are a medical emergency…..

Have a fasting blood sugar test done (it takes about 5 hours). You may be hypoglycemic (have low blood sugar). If that is the case, in an effort to riase your blood sugar you take a drink. But for a hypoglycemic, the more he takes in the lower the blood sugar drops, so he drinks some more in an attempt for the body to get things right. I am not saying that this is your problem, but I know of one alcoholic for whom *** was. She went into rehab twice, and all the time she was there they fed her sweets as a substitute for alcohol. But they are both sugars. As soon as she got out of rehab she went on a drinking binge because the addiction, in her case, was never addressed.

The treatment for hypoglycemia is to stay off sugar (same treatment for diabetics). After learning of her problem, whenever she had a craving she ate protein instead. (She kept boiled shrimp in the refrigerator for this purpose.)  It worked. Get yourself tested.

Hi helpless123
It is out of your system now. The problem is that while the body may be detoxed your mind will need much more work and effort. You are doing well, treat your self tonight, get a movie or some thing that dose not involve drink.
To Err Is Human, To Forgive Divine, forgive yourself.

Keep it up, you don’t need to apologize, your post is good enough for me, thanks for reminding me of what it was like when I was drinking.

Talk to you soon

Thanks to all who responded to my "poor me" mood.  You all struck a cord with me and I am working more toward a positive mental loop.  You were right when you said all I made are excuses.  I am finally giving myself permission to not be perfect - when in fact I was doing everything not to be perfect (if that makes sense).  I have a lot of work ahead of me.

All of your support has really helped.  I apologize about not sending each of you directly a thank you - I am still learning to navigate the website.

One question, this is day 7 for me - does anyone know how long it actually takes to get rid of all the alcohol in your system?

Thanks,
P

The word that wasn't published meant that I know how you feel, and that you feel rotten...

I know it *****, but it's time to show yourself (and later the people that mean something to you!) that you WANT TO do this! This is the greatest challenge that you'll ever face, but there is HELP out there, but you MUST want it (and you do, or you wouldn't be here writing to us, believe me!). If you fall, there are people that'll help you walk again. But you MUST want it. I drank heavily for many, many years and found out it had affected my liver and my pancreas (and no one would believe it or my age, since I strangely look quite young and healthy, but I was BAD into drinking and drugs, I would have died had I continued). Strangely that is even less hard to deal with than what I lost in relationships: many great friends, the most important relationship I have ever had (my husband) and also my dignity, my savings, my ambitions, my everything. But I am fighting it now, and yes, I keep stumble, but I do WANT sobriety!

Get a grip, there aint no one that can help you on less you want some help.
You sound like you are in a rut, again it is you and only you who can get out of this hole you find yourself in.

Time for some hard decisions, do you want to stop, if the answer is yes then get some help, staying in bed feeling sorry for yourself is the last thing you need get out and get help, it aint going to come on less you ask for it.

Get angry but channel it into taking some action.

Get to an AA meeting, that is the first thing you need to do. do it now.
