Developing more allergies to fruits/vegetables??

About a year and a half ago I suddenly developed an allergy to avocado, one of my favorite foods.  I ate a bowl of guacamole dip, and suddenly my mouth felt itchy and swollen.  Then my throat and chest became tight.  I could still breathe, but it was very uncomfortable.

I read that this could indicate a latex allergy.  I've avoided avocado, but sometimes eat little bits to test it out.  The reaction varies in severity.

Recently the same symptoms have happened when I eat bananas.  Other vegetables are beginning to produce symptoms too, though not as severe.

I'm a little freaked out - I love fruits and vegetables!  Will this go away?  Is there anything I can do to stop it?

Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to our community.   If you are also allergic to banannas I'd get to an allergist for sure (even with that severe reaction to avacodo you need an epi pen script).

Both banannas and avacado are high on the list for latex cross reactions .. my teenage daughter is latex allergic and cross reacted to a plum.  Although she can eat avacado, bananna and chestnuts.  But she's Class 5 out of 6 with Hazelnuts and stays wayyyy clear from those and has now become life threatening allergic to other nuts, too.

The best way is avoidance and with latex that is key...as it doesn't go away and only can get worse with repeated exposure from daily life.

Keep in touch .. but pls. don't test little bites .. it can kill.

Let us know how you make out ..
