How do u know which formula is best for my 5 month old son?

My son is 5 months old and we still dont have him settled on a particular formula. We have tried nearly every formula on the shelve but nothing seems to work. We have him under a paediatrian but still no confirmed answers. He suspects he may have a cows milk protein allergy i have tried him on prescription formula and there was a little improvement but now he wont take it. Is it going to harm him to have him on a HA formula if he tends to take to that more? I dont know a lot about the allergy so just wanted to double check that using a HA formula is not going to cause damage later on down the track?
