ASO test and tonsilitis

by ali911, May 12, 2008 11:37PM
Hi everyone,

I just joined this community and hope to meet some really nice people here.
I also have a question. I saw the ENT today and he wanted me to do an ASO titer and he said that would "definitvely" say wether I have chronic tonsilities caused by bacteria. From my research so far on the net that doesnt seem to be cause. Has anyone faced a similar situation ? I do have a swollen lymph node under my chin on the left side which another ENT said was due to the tonsilitis.

Thanks,
Ali

Hi,

An ASO titre would help in ruling out bacterial infection as the cause of your sore throat and in some cases tonsillitis.

You would have been prescribed medications for the tonsillitis already based on clinical examination - what medications have been prescribed?

What is your age and what symptoms are you having?

Try some warm saline / betadiene gargles too to help with your symptoms.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Regards.

Hi Everyone,

I joined this community because of my daughter. I consulted an ENT specialist because of my daughter's recurrent throat infection. The value of her ASO titer is 200. The doctor recommended a tonsillectomy but I am hesitant to have my 11 year old daughter undergo said operation. I was told that constant gargling of mouthwash and immediate medication of a strong antibiotics at the very onset of throat infection would lessen the risk of my daughter to acquire rheumatic fever. Please give me your advice. Do you think my daughter needs immediate tonsillectomy or a change in her daily routine would suffice?

Thank you and best regards.

Monique
