Alcohol Causing Illness and Acne

by globetrekker, May 06, 2008 04:58PM
I have found that if I drink more than one drink during the course of a night, several hours later I will have extremely achy and restless legs. Also within 30 minutes of my first sip of alcohol, my eyes will become fairly bloodshot. The next day I might have a slight hangover, but not much. However, throughout the next day I will slowly develop some sinus congestion. I will then also begin to develop a cough. This respiratory infection will last for 3-4 days after drinking any sort of alcohol. Also about 2 days following alcohol intake, 1 or 2 large blemishes will show at the corner of my lips.

This exact same process happens nearly everytime I consume alcohol. I'm a 23 year old healthy, athletic male. I have a very well balanced diet and I drink plenty of water. Do I have an alcohol intolerance? Is it possible that alcohol is weakening my immune system? What can I do to prevent this? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You could be having alcohol intolerance but nothing can be said with surety without a proper clinical examination.

You should avoid alcohol if it is causing your symptoms and take oral antihistamine medications for symptomatic relief.

Have you had allergic reactions in the past? Are you allergic to any other specific substances?

It would help to take a vitamin B complex and also consult your doctor for your symptoms if they persist.

Post us if you have any other doubts and let us know about how you are doing.

Regards.
