Allegra vs Zyrtec

My 8month old has severe allergies. We have had him on Zyrtec for the past 2 months with no help, so my ENT suggested we try Allegra. Today is our first day with it. My question is how do these two medications compair to each other. Is there one that works better or is it just trial and error.
