Allergic reaction to cortisone shot..which was the more likely culprit..

by Niniel, Jun 01, 2006 12:00AM
Hi!  Got a cortisone shot in my shoudler a couple of years ago, had 1 shot,no problem, had an arthrogram (sp?) and a shot of nothing but marcaine..same no problem..then about 2 days after I had another cortisone shot..w/in 15 minutes I started seeing stars and had an "edemic" reaction, throat closed, shooting stars, swelled..  The doctors have never been able to tell me the cause, was it the marcaine or the cortisone?  They gave me methylprednisolone pack at hospital, which I had a reaction to, turned red, got hot.. was told couldn't take that..

I am scheduled for a breast cyst biopsy where they will have to use anesthetic..we've decided on carbocain (dentinst uses) to be safe.  My question is, what would've been the more likely culprit to the reaction?  marcaine or cortisone?  I've been told dr.'s won't want to do surgery on me in the future because of the risk and not knowing and can you be tested for which one it was?

Sorry for the long post...look forward to any input!
