Allergic to Amoxicillin- HIVES!

by afnss, Jun 09, 2009 10:22AM
I was taking a course of Amoxicillin for strep throat and on my second last day of treatment I start to get hives. They started around my upper thigh, arm pit and under my breast on a Saturday. By Sunday they were much worse and I went to the emergency room.

The doctor felt it was a food allergy, although I hadn't eaten anything new or unusual to me.  The following day I developed hives on the soles of my feet, palms and around my mouth and eyes. The doctor then said it looked like it was penicillin allergy.

Currently I am taking 50 mg of Bendryl every four hours and 30 mg of prednisone daily.  The hive do not appear to be getting better. Any advice?

To complicate matter, my husband and I starting an In-vitro cycle and I am scheduled to start taking Suprefact this Saturday. Will this cause an adverse problems?

You must continue with Benadryl and Prednisone. Have patience, it will work. You can go on with the in-vitro cycle as scheduled. But you must inform your gynaecologist about your current medications
