Allergy following spinal surgery

by 1grammy, Jul 09, 2006 12:00AM
I recently had serious cervical spinal surgery and the second week after surgery, I developed bad hives.  The drs. are having trouble finding the cause.  Can the protheses or the donor bone put in my neck be causing me this allergic reaction.  The hives are terrible, itchy and painful.  The drs. have stopped all medications and I still got the hives. They then reintroduced the meds slowly, but the hives are making me crazy.  How can we find out if the stainless steel cage, plates, rods, screws and the donor bone are the problem.  If they are, what do they do, since they cannot be removed?
