Allergy shots and Methylprednisolone

I received my weekly allergy shots today (8/12/11) and a doctor in the office prescribed me methylprednisolone tablets to clear up poison ivy.  I am to start the methylprednisolone tomorrow, but wanted to know if it was ok to take with the allergy shots.  The pharmacist I talked to was not very convincing when she said it "should" be alright.

You can take steroids (methylprednisolone) with the allergy shots, only ensure to see you don't stop taking them abruptly and that they are gradually tapered off.

I cannot tell you how many times I have taken steroids while on immunotherapy.  It is perfectly safe.  You don't want to take steroids before allergy testing though, or they can cause false negatives.

Paderla, you were saying that stredoids you can't stop that abrupty, Im taking Solumedrol 125 mg IV for 5 days and they stop me just like that, its that safe because I can have very severe withdralls :S

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Short courses of steroids like if taken for 5 days, don't need tapering. Also, the common side effects of solumedrol  include increased appetite, increased energy and irritability, insomnia and upset stomach.
