Anaphylaxis treatment - peanut allergy

My boyfriend has a peanut allergy.  I get concerned about this when we travel to Jamaica.  The area we stay in has a very small medical centre, but supplies are often a problem due to lack of funding.  I'm trying to contact them to be sure that they have epinephrine on hand.  My bf does have an epi pen and a Salbutamol inhaler.  He is very careful what he eats but there is a big concern eating at so many different establishments, plus we like to explore remote areas.

My question is this.  Is there anything else other than the epi pen and inhaler that I can/should do if he does go into anaphylactic shock?  Would it help to bring some OTC benylin?  Also, would it be wise to carry more than one epi pen?  And if so, how long after the first can he have a second shot?

Appreciate any input,
Thanks.

First....he should always have two pens on hand, in case one of the pens doesn't discharge as it should....if her uses the pen, then it's imperative to call 911...epi affects the heart....and monitoring is needed.  There's also the chance of a delayed "second reaction" which needs to be watched for by medical personnel.  Hope this helps.

Yes, 2 pens and I would also take some Benadryl along with you.  He also needs to wear some sort of medical alert tag, in case something happens when you're not with him.

Good luck!

Hi,

It would help to carry some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications and benadryl. Try to find out the nearest hospital/ medical care centre to the place where he will be staying, that can be contacted in case of an emergency.

Consult your doctor before you leave and get a clinical examination done. Carry a prescription for the medications you would be carrying.

If it is an option, you could take some food supplies with you , till you are able to adjust to the place.

Let us know about any other information that you need.

Regards.
