Are pets REALLY the problem?

My husband has been having allergy symptons since early December (it's now the end of Jan.).  Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and has been to the dr. 3 times.  He's been given z-packs, steroids, breathing treatments.  Two weeks ago, he went to an allergist who diagnosed him allergic to dogs, cats, horse, & mold.  We've been married for 5 years, and I've had the same dog and cat the entire time.  The only time he tends to have this difficulty is in the winter.  The rest of the year, he doesn't have this particular problem.  Rarely, during the summer, he gets whelps (that itch) all over his legs & abdomen and has to go to the dr. for a breathing treatment.  This happens when we aren't even at home with the pets.  Lately, we've been keeping the pets out of the house, bought good air filters, air purifier, humidifer, pillow covers, etc.  I am not totally convinced that the pets are the culprit since this happens only in the winter.  My kitty is 20 years old. . .I've had him 19 of those years :)  There has to be more to this story?  Anyone have any thoughts??

      I think your husband is having asthma. Asthma is a condition that develops due to hypersensitivity to certain stimuli or climatic conditions, food etc and leads to inflammation and spasm of the terminal airways in the lungs leading to cough, wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty in breathing. Asthma can also happen due to intrinsic factors inside the body. I would recommend that you consult a pulmonologist for further assistance on this. Best.
