Autoimmune Questions

by dawnieM, Aug 09, 2006 12:00AM
I am anemic but when I take iron supp to correct my iron goes high but ferritin stays low.  I'm worried about iron overload but my doc says keep taking iron.  Should I keep taking the iron until ferritin goes up?  What about my kidney function when in iron overload?  I also have Hashimotos and some positive antibodies (ana positive and tpo).

have you been tested for celiac sprue? I had low iron/anemia for 6 years - would take tons of iron and it wouldn't help. Finally found out it was the celiac -- No more gluten for me & my iron levels are rising!!

Look into it...

How have your problems evolved? Did you get your ferritin up? Do you get tested for Celiac Sprue. I have similar problems and similar doubts.
