Bactrim

Bactrim

Ive been taking bactrim for about a week and a half now and almost done with the bottle for an abscess I got.  It says not to stay in the sun for a long period of time.  well yesterday i got sunburn on my shoulders from sitting in the sun for about 20 minutes.  then towards the end of my work shift today around 6 am i noticed red spots on my arms that quickly spread to my stomach area and neck from where my sunburn is.  they don't really itch though.  It seems to be getting worse by means of coverage on my body.  could this be an allergic reaction or just something cause by the sunburn or a reaction to the bactrim?

Yes, certain medicines will cause you to sunburn more quickly and have other reactions.  I think you should call your doctor's office and tell them what has happened.  It is probably just a reaction to the sun exposure and the medicine combined, but don't take any chances.  Hopefully the nurse will be able to take your info over the phone and get back to you with the dr's advice instead of you having to go in.

You could try cool compresses and some benadryl in the mean time.
