Can high eosinophil be from weak allergies?

by sr632, Sep 16, 2008 12:39PM
During a routine physical my blood test showed an eosinophil level of 13%.  My doctor brushed this off as caused by "seasonal allergies".  I never thought I had allergies.  When pushed, sure, I wake up a little congested in the morning, but I do not take any allergy medicine nor feel any significant symptoms.

Is a level of 13% consistent with "seasonal allergies"?  even when I have very weak symptoms?

Hi

High eosinophil count can be due to a lot of causes such as connective tissue diseases, worm infections, allergies, systemic diseases, medications, etc.

Are you currently having any other symptoms? If you are feeling normal, you can get the test repeated after a week. If the values are still raised, then you should consult your doctor for a complete examination which is needed diseases associated with eosinophilia can involve any part of the body, including the skin, brain, eyes, lymph nodes, lungs, heart, liver, spleen, intestine, bone, and nervous system.
Treatment is usually based upon the underlying disease process.

Take care, and do write in for more information.
Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.  No, I don't think I have any other symptoms. It was just part of my normal physical.

My doctor said to wait a couple months until after the first frost (which would mean the end of allergy season) and then take the test again.

Should I be re-tested sooner than that?
