Children taking allergy medications

by psh, Jun 28, 2006 12:00AM
My grandchildren ages 11 mos., 5 and 6 years old all take allergy medications. The youngest two take Zertec. The mother suffers from allergies and though I have never seen signs that they do she believes they also do and her doctor has prescribed these medications. Is it safe for young children to take allergy medications daily?

My youngest son, now age 3 has taken Zyrtec on and off since he was about 10 months old.  I also have a 7 yr old who has taken it since he was 4.  It does help my boys and has not caused any problems.  Surely your daughter's doctor has examined the children before prescribing the medicine, so I wouldn't be too worried about them taking the Zyrtec.
