Chronic Hives (Urticaria)

Chronic Hives (Urticaria)

I have been diagnosed and suffering from Chronic Hives (Urticaria) of unknown origin for just over a year now.  I have never had any allergies in the past I am even immune to poison ivy and sumac.  I thought I was cured when I changed my diet and started a regular exercise routine.  I was wrong, and yes I did not see any symptoms for quite a while but I soon found that they slowly crept back into my life.  I began doing test taking foods out of my diet and more but I finally figured out that stress was the trigger.  I am a Male 32 and I am really struggling with this.  I have mild to extreme break outs like more than 50% of my body at times.  My face had swollen so much once that I woke up one morning and could barely see and speak due to the swelling.  Also my fingers, toes, ankle bones also ache when they begin to swell.  Sometimes it is just mild where the palms of my hands, forearms, chest and shoulders itch but when my scalp starts to itch is when I know it is getting worse.  I have had wheels grow so large that they merged with the ones around it to make larger patches.  Taking a nap or ice sometimes helps but since there is no cure what's next.  Over the counter antihistamines are worthless for this kind of case.  My Dermatologist thinks I need to use those meds on the long term instead of prescription but the prescription meds knock out current breakouts quickly.  If it is stress related should I be on medicine for stress to manage the Hives?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The swelling could be due to angioedema. This is swelling of the deeper layers of the skin due to an allergic reaction. The reaction occurs more commonly on the face around the lips and near the eyes. Therapy lies in identifying the allergens and avoiding them and anti histamines. An allergy specialist can help identify the allergens and desensitize you. If you feel stress is the triggering factor, then combat ways to fight stress.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
