Coughing all the time!

I have started to cough constantly for the past month - (although I have always had a cough sometimes worse at times but now it seems serious).I have tried using steroid nose spray along with a saline nose spray in the hope that it is just a post nasal drip. I have also been taking a codeine syrup to relax the cough - none of these have worked and am now in the process of blood tests and throat swabs to eliminate any bacteria or  infections etc.
I also noticed that since moving to our current apartment less than a year ago, the cough has got worse. There is a damp smell in the bedroom as the neighbour's bathroom is on the same wall - could the damp/mill-dew be the cause of the cough??? What other causes could there be?? I am 34 years old, don't have breathing problems, gave up smoking over 6 years ago and have a pretty clean health history.

Hi, welcome to the forum, the cause of chronic cough are Tracheoesophageal fistula, Laryngotracheomalacia, mediastinal tumors, Granulomatous infection, Bordetella pertussis infection, Foreign body aspiration with secondary suppuration, cough-dominant asthma, Gastroesophageal reflux and smoke from tobacco.

As all he above mentioned conditions has been ruled out by radio imaging. One possibility can be cough dominant asthma. There can be associated food allergy. your throat every time responds to food this way. Look for specific foods causing this and try avoiding it.

You can go for a short course of anti histamines against prescription. Consult a allergy specialist and get your blood IgE levels. Take care and regards.

Welcome to the forum.

The concern would be if you have mold  in different areas of your apartment.
You need to rule out mold, before investigating further. It is imperative that you act soon.
Mold grows in areas where the moisture levels are higher and sometimes are hidden behind walls and not visible to anyone.
You should raise your concerns with the landlord. If not willing my suggestion would be to get a mold elimination expert to check  it for you and give the landlord  the bill if indeed there's mold.
He would have to get that completely cleaned up, so you and your family can live there.
The health implications can be nasty!  Please don't take a chance.
Mold is dangerous type of fungi and extremely hardy. It can survive under any type of conditions for long long time. So make sure it's eliminated from your enviroment!

Also invest perhaps in a good air cleaner, or at least a Lamp Berger ( air purification system,-also deodorizes-neutrilizes offensive odors and bacteria) $40.00 Canadian for a complete kit here in Canada.

Meanwhile Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is Anti-fungal, Anti-bacterial, Anti-microbial, Anti-parasitic.
Consuming this will give you  great long term health benefits. It  does not get treated as fat in the body - goes to energy- and it increases metabolism. Great heart and brain food as well! Check it out. ( I've replaced all my cooking oils with EVCO- at medium and high heat no alteration- and I also use it on toast and steamed vegetables daily) It's wonderful!

Organic apple cider vinegar (raw, unfitered) may also help. One Tablespoon before meals.

Drink plenty of  filtered water 1h away from meals, eat nutrient rich food, exercise, de-stress, rest and sleep enough and well, meditate, and your body should take care of the rest!
No need for meds.
Please do your own research, before making any decision about your health.

Blessings,
Nikodicreta
