Dental challenge

Today I had to keep my mouth open for about an hour while having dental work done.  With my head back I had phlegm in my throat and was gagging because I couldn't breathe through my mouth.  Because I couldn't talk, I couldn't tell the dentist about the pleghm and he kept telling me to breathe through my nose- I had a difficult time doing this because my nose was clogged!  Because there was a roof dam in my mouth, it was impossible to "give me a break".

I am going to have more dental work in the near future and I thought maybe I should take Sudafed before the visit.  For many years when I flew on a plane I had ear pain while landing because of my allergies until I read about Sudafed and no more ear pain!

I don't know how well I explained my question-difficult to put in words and appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Karen
