Distraught daughter no help

Wow this is so similar to my daughters symptoms.  She has seen 2 allergist both times they did a scratch test and said she has no food allergies.  She gets the tingleling lips, then swollen lips.  She also gets rashes and hives sometimes.  she had hives all over her body when she was stung by a bee but they said she has no allergies..stupid.
The first allergist said she had no allergies but gave her a RX for 2 inhalers.wow.  Shes definately allergic to something.  we are so tired of the shrugs of the shoulders.

She had severe reaction to penicillen, ER visit at 9 mos old. Her dad has hives all the time as well.

She has this reaction all the time to tomatoes or tomato based products.  She has also found that when she eats wheat products she has swollen joints and sometimes hives bad headache.

It is very very frustrating, she is also 21.  She is so mad and crying today because the 2nd allergist told her to see a counselor...what a croc.
She needs a doc that has time to see what is the matter not a mental health counselor, although after 2 years of nothingness she may have to have one because no one will help.

MY DAUGHTER IS FRUSTRATED AS WELL, AND SO AM I!!! SHE HAD KNEE SURGERY A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND HAD AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO HER LATEX BRACE. SHE HAS HAD A COUPLE OF BREAKOUTS RECENTLY TO OTHER THINGS AND HER LIPS SWELLING AS WELL. I DECIDED TO HAVE HER TESTED FOR FOODS AND OTHER THINGS. TURNS OUT SHE TESTED POSITIVE TO ALOT OF FOODS, AND THAT NIGHT WE HAD TO CALL AN AMBULANCE BECAUSE SHE NEARLY STOPPED BREATHING AS A RESULT OF SOME SORT OF ALLERGIC REACTION! A SHOT OF EPI AND TWO STEROID SHOTS PLUS A BREATHING TREATMENT LATER WE WENT HOME. NEXT DAY WE FILLED ALL OF HER PERSCRIPTIONS AND THAT NIGHT SAME THING EXCEPT NO AMBULANCE HER FRIEND GAVE HER A SHOT FROM EPI PEN, TWO DAYS LATER SAME THING!! WHAT THE HECK DID THEY DO TO HER SHE IS 100 TIMES WORSE SINCE SCRATCH TESTS!!      HELP TICKED OFF MOM!!

Can you tell me more about these RAST tests for allergies and what is involved and more importantly--where do I get these tests done and how much does it cost?  Is this something covered by most health insurances?  Which lab is used?  I'm not getting much results from the scratch tests either, eventhough I know very well that I'm sensitive or allergic to things that didn't show up on the test.  The only things that showed up on the scratch tests were things I was already aware of:  tree pollens  Through food elimination diet I have discovered many allergies.  This is how I discovered that I'm allergic to garlic and onions, as well as every one of the major items on the basic elimination diet.  You did just describe to not2oldyet everything that I've already discovered food sensitivities to, so I know I'm already on the right track.  I definitely need to figure out the rest of the food issues, though, because I'm tired of the digestive problems that I know are food allergy related.  Benadryl actually works with the GERD for those things I haven't quite gotten figured out yet.  But, I really want to find something else, like what other things I need to avoid, that will work for the GERD/IBS problems I still have.  The GERD is definitely a lot better since I'm avoiding the things I am aware of, and so is the IBS.  I'm still having problems, though, and I still have to take herbs for the bowels, since I have the kind with constipation.  I am working with a naturopath on this, but I really just want to get to the bottom of this food allergy problem once and for all.  I've been working on this for so long already.

Aww, poor her. I hope she gets better, i know it must be frustrating. It makes me angry not being able to eat certain foods too - but luckily it worked for me. Just makes it treally hard going out with friends and being able to eat only a few things from the menu. Don't give up though, i am sure there is something out there that will work for her. The delayed food sensitivity test really worked in my case - but they say everybody is different. I just know nothing else really worked for me.

There is help out there! I used to get really bad hives and rashes and also had some scratch test done but nothing seemed to work. A friend of mine suggested getting a blood test done to see if i am allergic to something i eat. Well at that point i was ready to try anything, i was so tired of trying to cover my skin. I didn't really think it was food related but i have to tell you - once i got the results back i was shocked. Out of 132 foods and additives i was allergic to 39 including corn, egg, tomates and wheat just to mention a few. I had to follow a really strict diet for 6 weeks and eliminate all the foods i was sensitive to. After the 2nd week i seen great improvements - their Chef contacted me and suggested recipie ideas to help me through the tough days. It really worked for me, i have no more rashes or hives - unless i eat something i am not supposed to. It is hard to follow at times, but it is well worth it. I even lost over 20 pounds by being on this diet and by eating more healthy. My body just feels so much younger and refreshed. And i am just so glad to see my hives gone. I would definately recommend a blood test done. I went to Sage lab and was very impressed with the resuls.

Hello,

Tomatoes are a member of the Deadly Nightshade family, which also includes the eggplant, tobacco, foxglove and potatoes. Wheat or gluten contains thiamine (which is also found in Pork, beef, liver, legumes, nuts), riboflavin (also found in Milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, meat, leafy green vegetables), niacin (also in Meat, peanuts, legumes),iron(in Red meat, fish, poultry, shellfish, legumes, dried fruits) and folic acid in fortified wheat(also in Liver, green and leafy vegetables, lentils, oranges) in addition to carbohydrates and proteins.

It maybe that your daughter is allergic to any of these constituents and taking these constituents in any form is causing an allergic reaction.Reagrding the hives, many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. However others may be triggered by viral infections or medications.

I feel that you should get blood tests like RAST ,elimination diets or food challenge tests instead of scratch tests. These tests are more specific for food allergies.Pls ask your daughter not to loose heart and seek a good allergy specialist as all her symptoms are allergy caused and hence finding the offending agents and avoiding them is the best treatment.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your daughter is doing or of you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
