Dizziness when moving eyes, had facial pain in sinuses

by meill, May 16, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
My symtom's started with severe headache and flu like symtoms with tightness in my sinuses and tenderness. I was prescribed Penicillian and nasonex nasal spray. I had an allergic rash appear from Penicillian and given an antihistimine to calm it and a different antibiotic Doxycycline for sinuses instead. I complained that the Nasonex seemed to make facial pain worse and ears felt full.Doctor advised to continue and prescibed Amitriptyline, only 5mg at night, he felt I was depressed as very tearful.(I felt I was stressed as my symtoms weren't getting better and felt low)
Went back 2 weeks later facial pain still awful and doctor tried to give more antibiotics. complained of dissiness and prescribed stemetil. took for 3 days no improvement I went for second opinion with another doctor and she said stop all the drugs as they are probably a bad combination.  I now have a drip at the back of throat continually, the fullness in the ear has gone and the pressure on my face is improving, still get tingling when going outside. The biggest problem I have is the dissiness. When I move my eyes up and down side to side they hurt and make me feel light headed. Can you advise what you think is causing it, could it be the drugs still in system it is 5 days ago I stopped taking them. Do you think I have a sinus problem or something more serious.

I have the very same problem. It started several years ago. It seems to accompany respiratory infections.
One thing I also noticed is that when the dizziness occurs, I get anxious and it seems to make it worse. I have seen every doctor imaginable. The dizziness, lightheaded feeling with facial pain, ear pain, if I move my eyes it gets worse. They originally said it was vasal vagal syncope. I also was recently diagnosed with UCTD (undifferientated connective tissue disease). I have chronic inflammation in my chest and difficulty breathing at times, fatigue, you name it. I also suffer from migraines.
After seeing the immunologist/rhumatologist, and getting the diagnosis, I put all my symptoms together ( including joint pain and stiffness, numbness, skin problems)
I take methotrexate weekly for the symptoms, and it has a tendency to weaken my immune system. So when I get a cold ( which I have had for almost 2 weeks now) it takes me much longer to recover. Also my sinuses are infected and with the wind outside, the dizziness sets in.  One of the things I have noticed that helps is taking meclizine (dramimine over the counter) and claritin or benadryl. It help with the dizziness.
