Do I have pet allergies?

I read that pet allergies are caused by the proteins in saliva, dander, and urine of pets. I have had a dog for 7 years and didn't experience any noticeable symptoms. The dog used to even sleep in the same bed as me. Now, I am starting to get a stuffy nose, fatigue, red eyes (not itchy), and concentration problems. I noticed my symptoms get worse when I go to a room where the dog has urinated in. I tried cleaning the urine out of the carpet with vinegar, but it didn't do anything. I recently moved into an apartment where a dog urinated all over the carpet. I had the carpet steam cleaned and enzymes were added to the carpet. I am experiencing itchiness and a stuffy nose, while I go to the apartment. I don't develop a rash. I just feel random spots that itch. I scratch and it goes away. Is it possible to only be allergic to pet urine? Is it possible to develop a pet allergy out of no where? I might be allergic to the enzymes as well. I'm not sure. Does it sound like I have pet allergies?

Hi,

It does appear to be sensitivity to some substance. However, it will be based on circumstances of the allergy as well an examination and tests that may confirm if this is indeed a pet allergy.

Allergies may be caused to absolutely any substance in the environment. They may also develop at any time and to anybody. In your case, it  would be helpful to understand if the carpet or other substances may have been used for a long time.

You will probably need to contact your doctor and get yourself examined, for allergies and possible causes. You may try and change your living space and sift to an area where there is not interaction with dogs for some time at least. You may also try anti-allergics. A favorable response with them is also an indication of an allergic/sensitivity reaction.

Hope this helped. Let me know if you may need more help.
