Your nurse is right. Give your son Benadryl, call again and confirm the dose. You can also so give acetaminophen along with Benadryl. Apply ice packs. Below the skin there is a common space extending from forehead to cheek. After the sting water, blood, chemicals and cells that collect as a result move to lower areas like your eyelids, cheek etc. Hence the swelling will persist for some time, change color and then slowly disappear. Normally the sting is not a cause of concern.
