Does a reaction to an antibiotic make you more likely to react to any other abx?

Does an allergic reaction to an antibiotic make you more likely to react to any other antibiotic, even one in a different family?

I have had a bad reaction to a sulfa antibiotic in the past. My doc now wants to treat me with Levaquin. I've never had a drug in this family and I'm nervous that it might be something I'll react badly to.

I have taken several antibiotic through out my life. I had taken pinicillen several times before. One day I took it and had a severe allergic reactoin. With in minutes I was near death. I lost my eye site, motor controll of arms and legs. Head swelled ect. I was so close to dying I was absolutley sure I was going to die. I developed PTSD from this. Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. I was very afraid to take other medicines and ecspecially anti biotics again. However I have found I have not had a an reactions again from any other anti biotics as long as they arent in the same Cillin family.
I believe that would be your only concern that you dont want one from the same family. And from what I hear dont use them unless absolutly needed.Let me know.

I would not worry about the Levaquin being a problem of the type you experienced with the sulfa antibiotic. They are different molecules, in different classes of drugs.
